It doesn't seem possible, this school year isn't even over with yet, but worries about the 2012-2013 school year are already here. Tucson Unified School District is launching a campaign 'Get On The Bus' to remind parents to register their children by the May 15 deadline.
The reminder is for parents of children new to the district or those changing schools within the district. There is no need to re-register if your child is continuing in their current school. New students need to be registered by May 15 in order to finalize bus routes and schedules and be able to mail information one week prior to school starting. The date for school to start is earlier this year as well, August 2 is when school starts. If your child is not registered by the May 15 deadline they might not have a ride home that first day of school, because routes and schedules will have been finalized already. If you miss the deadline the district will provide a bus route and information as soon as it is available.
“The district is taking a number of steps to improve transportation and communications,” says TUSD Director of Transportation Paul Larson. “We have assembled a transportation task force to coordinate collecting transportation-related data. In addition, a new phone system will improve our ability to handle the volume of phone calls at the start of school.”
Parents are encouraged to visit www.TUSD1.org/GetOnTheBus to learn about transportation opportunities, eligibility requirements, registration procedures, and to see FAQs, a newcomers guide, and more.
