Tucson Doctor returns after Orthopaedic fellowship in New York | Health
The following is a news release from the Tucson Orthopaedic Institute:
Andrew P. Mahoney, M.D., has joined Tucson Orthopaedic Institute, a leading provider of comprehensive surgical and non-surgical treatment for bone, joint and muscle disorders in Southern Arizona. Dr. Mahoney is seeing patients at the East location on the TMC Campus, where he specializes in shoulder and elbow injuries, and has a strong interest in general orthopaedics to address the needs of his hometown community.
A 2006 graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Dr. Mahoney returns to Tucson after completing a Shoulder/Elbow fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center, Hospital for Joint Disease, ranked as the sixth best institution for orthopedic care in 2012. (U.S. News and World Report 2012-13.) Dr. Mahoney says shoulder arthritis treatment has really evolved and previously unsolved problems such as arthritis in the face of massive rotator cuff tears are currently being treated with reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.
“My familiarity with both arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery has improved my ability to take care of all patients,” says Dr. Mahoney. “I approach the patient from a holistic perspective taking into account patient expectations, level of activity and the nature of their problem.”
In addition to his early training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Arizona, Dr. Mahoney also did a research fellowship at the prestigious AO Foundation in Davos Switzerland. During this fellowship, he contributed on a project to address fracture management in the geriatric population. Though his training has taken him far from Arizona, Dr. Mahoney is glad to be back home again.
“I grew up in Tucson, with its unique mix of cultures,” remarks Mahoney. “I am fortunate to speak fluent Spanish, which brings a diversity that I enjoy to my practice. I want to give back to the community that I love.”
Dr. Andrew Mahoney‘s practice at Tucson Orthopaedic Institute is located at 2424 N. Wyatt Drive, and will be moving in Spring 2013 into the new TMC Orthopaedic and Surgical Tower currently under construction. The new orthopaedic center will expand patient access to world-class orthopaedic care, for patients of Dr. Mahoney, and all of the TucsonOrtho surgeons.
