Students could soon be going mobile at local libraries
News

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- Pima County Libraries are one of only a dozen organizations receiving money to make a leap into the future, by designing a media lab for students.

The Himmel Library, near Speedway and Country Club in midtown will be one of the first.  Officials say they are very excited about this grant and what it is going to bring to the entire library system and the county.

The grant, worth $100,000, is from the Institue of Museum and Library Services and the MacArthur Foundation.  Pima County will plan three unique media spaces for middle and high school students, including an online community and mobile media lab.

The mobile lab can serve all of Pima County, so no one is limited by location or time, but it is students themselves who will be designing this.

Kids will be doing research, planning how it will look and function, and deciding how to fundraise.

Of course, they will not be doing it alone.  A local photographer and the U of A Computer Science Department will be helping too.

This youth led project will start getting together in January.
